Scope and Purpose
Kindergarten Curriculum
The full-day kindergarten class provides a safe, structured environment where the children can enjoy learning as they prepare for first grade readiness. This environment allows the child to spend more time in learning phonetic reading and spelling, Bible stories and Biblical truths, skills in arithmetic counting and addition facts, penmanship, memorization, music, and manners. The children enjoy fun learning experiences with many creative hands-on opportunities.
1st – 3rd Grade Curriculum
In our lower elementary grades, a strong emphasis is put on a thorough knowledge of reading and spelling through phonetic methods. Bible includes memory verses and lessons on salvation, parables, and various Bible stories. A strong emphasis is put on health, safety, and manners. The children are taught kindness, responsibility, and respect. Language is composed of manuscript to cursive writing, recognition of complete sentences, grammar recognition and usage, and the writing process. Arithmetic covers the basic skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as many mathematical combinations and exercises. Beginning in third grade, the children are taught history and science. They learn about America, their home, and the people who built America; as well as plants, animals, earth, space, matter, and energy. These are just some of the many topics taught which help in the development of these young minds.
4th – 6th Grade Curriculum
In the upper elementary grades, a strong emphasis is put on the development of the adolescent children. Children are taught lifelong social and emotional skills. In a structured, caring environment, built upon strong Biblical values and truths; the children are taught appropriate behavior, manners, and interpersonal relationship skills. The following are some of the many topics in which teachers work together to teach the children. Bible includes memory verses, the study of Bible characters, salvation, and Bible doctrines. In language, oral reading, reading comprehension, and vocabulary building are learned and practiced. Children are taught the parts of speech, word usage, and the writing process. Place value, mastery of fundamental operations, measurements, basic geometric shapes, equations, and the introduction into algebra are a part of mathematics. Students learn United States’ history, world history, and geographic facts and locations. In science, students learn about mammals; forces and motion of energy, electricity, light; matter, geology, oceanography, astronomy, and conservation.
JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Bible
All of the Bible classes are designed to instill into every student a clear Biblical perspective of life. Teachers strive to teach the basic knowledge of the Word of God. To know God is to love God. The purpose in Bible is for students to know God, to love God, and want to serve God. The Bible curriculum helps students to develop Biblical wisdom in relationships with family, friends, and leadership; character; and decision making. Students attain a clearer understanding of salvation and sharing the Gospel.

English
At every grade, students learn the importance of the English language and the power in words. Students are taught the parts of speech, sentence structure, mechanics, usage, writing skills, and study and reference skills. Teachers emphasize spelling skills, vocabulary building, proper and effective speech, and so much more. In a day when society has greatly deteriorated the English language, teachers work diligently at teaching students to raise the standard in their everyday speech and communication.
Math
The mathematical classes are designed to give students an understanding and usage of the fundamentals and concepts of math. Students learn arithmetic operations, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and advanced mathematics. Students learn to think logically and apply their mathematical skills to everyday life.

History
History offers a storehouse of information about people, places, and events. Geography teaches students the physical, political, and cultural geography of our world. Teachers emphasize Biblical basis and illustrations for geographic principles, the geography of Bible lands, and world missions. Students gain understanding of the structure of our government, the Constitution, and our free-enterprise system.
In teaching history, students learn the influence of their Christianity in early America and the importance of their own moral understanding and good citizenship.

Science
Physical science is a source of models that explain how the world works. Students learn the world of matter, the study of mechanics, as well as electromagnetism, periodic motion, waves, sound, and an introduction into chemistry. From Christian educators, students learn biology as the study of life.
They are taught Biblical Creationism, Noah’s ark, and the age of the earth. Life science teaches students the foundations of life, genetics, microbiology, botany, zoology, ecology, and human anatomy and physiology. Space and earth science teaches our earth’s framework, the celestial sphere, atmosphere, lithosphere, and hydrosphere.

Reading
Reading is vitally important for today’s students. In the reading classes, teachers help the students to improve their phonetic skills, oral reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and many other reading skills. Teachers strive to instill in each child a love for reading. Students are encouraged to have several books which they are currently reading. Reading is a subject that is made important in every
academic class.
Senior Seminar
Senior Seminar is a class designed to help seniors as they prepare for their futures. Many topics are covered through the course of a year. A few of those topics include finances, leadership, major purchases (home and car), dating, marriage, interpersonal relationships, college, and other subjects and decisions that young adults will face.
Industrial Arts I & II
In Industrial Arts I & II, the goal is to develop a confidence in the student’s ability to learn and perform valuable skills. In Industrial Arts I, the teacher wants to familiarize the students with construction practices including measuring, print reading, lumber and framing, simple plumbing and electrical components, and the knowledge and use of hand and power tools. In Industrial Arts II, the teacher wants to provide additional knowledge and proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, interior and exterior finishes.
Cooking & Sewing
In cooking and sewing, the teacher wants the students to not only learn valuable skills, but to gain an interest and enjoyment in these areas. In cooking, students learn cooking tools and terms, measurements and conversions of recipes, meal planning, food safety, and more. The students participate in many cooking labs with hands-on experiences. In sewing, the students learn about fabrics, reading and using patterns, seams and stitches, and the steps needed to make several garments.
Christian Womanhood
Christian Womanhood teaches the girls the importance of femininity grounded on a Biblical perspective of their roles as ladies. Girls learn proper etiquette, personal hygiene and appearance, walking with God, relationships, communication, peer pressure, nutrition, dating, in addition to a variety of other topics.
Christian Manhood
Christian Manhood is a class that teaches the high school boys a variety of subjects which prepare them for manhood. The students learn Biblical wisdom, character traits, personal hygiene, health and nutrition, auto mechanics, getting and keeping a job. Also the class focuses on many other issues concerning life after high school.
Music
Music adds so much in a student’s life. The music classes are designed to not only get the students singing, as in vocal choirs, but to teach the fundamentals of music. Students in vocal choirs learn many songs of which they add to the music specials of the chapel services. Juniors and seniors may choose a music theory class in which they are taught chords, triads, chord structure, intervals, interval recognition, scale memorization, accidentals, key signature, and many other areas of music. By individual tryouts, the Overcomer Ensemble is a high school singing group which meets as a daily class.
Computer Technology
In computer technology, students are offered training on individual computers with personalized instruction in the following areas: PC introduction, Windows, keyboarding, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Students are given various assignments and projects that will help them gain a better understanding and usage of computers.
Physical Education
Students learn various sports’ skills and rules, along with opportunities to practice that which they have learned. Many of the classes participate in the Presidential Fitness Plan. Students are taught personal fitness and participate in a variety of exercises and techniques to strengthen physical health and well-being. Students are taught increased attention and self-control. Physical activity helps to shape good attitudes and build self-esteem in students. |
